Introduction

The Egg Harbor City Historical Society was founded in the early 1990s by a group of dedicated residents interested in local history. Shortly thereafter, the group obtained the use of a building that had been part of the original Dr. Smith's Neautral Waters Health Resort. For many years, it had been used for the storage of tractors, lawnmowers and lost bicycles. One could see the outside world without the benefit of windows, and the second floor was completely inaccessible due to its previous residents....mold, mildew, rot and termites. Through the diligence of the society's members, the entire interior was reconstructed and turned into one of the finest local museums around. In the summer of 1993, the museum was opened to the public and was registered as a historical site. The society continues to maintain the building and its collections of local historical items and information, making it available to all at no charge.
